Non-Riot Related Fire at College Park

Just a few weeks after Lasick's burnt down to the ground, the abandoned Sigma Chi house at College Park apparently went up in flames, or at least in the basement according to a Diamondback winter break special report.

The building was abandoned in February 2002 after the university closed the Sigma Chi fraternity for violating Greek Life policies, said Matt Supple, assistant director of campus programs. There is no dollar loss on the building, which is not university-owned, as it was scheduled for demolition.

By the time firefighters arrived to put out the blaze, the basement was almost completely consumed, Brady said. The fire department is still investigating how the fire spread from there. No nearby buildings were affected, and fire fighters were able to extinguish it easily, Brady said.

Jeez, if you're going to try to burn down a building in College Park then Danny's would be the way to go. You'd be doing the campus community a favor by preventing future food poisonings from the ignorant, late-night ravenous freshmen community. (Note - TUL does not endorse the act of arson. Wins and/or losses of Maryland/Duke basketball do not apply to this announcement, of course).
