Last night's show was an incredibly nice departure from Tuesday's events. Maybe it was the fact there were no more than 300 people in the room, the friendliness of the crowd, or even being able enjoy a Red Stripe without paying exorbitant prices. Whatever the case maybe, Mr. Benson put on one hell of a performance yesterday and silenced any doubts of being able to perform his multi-layered songs live. We arrived well into The Greenhornes set and they honestly didn't do much for TUL. It was your typical bluesy garage rock band, not bad by any means, but I just couldn't get myself into their sound. Brendan Benson took the stage around 11:15 and kicked things off by immediately breaking into song. Benson and his three bandmates swiftly went from one track to the next with only the briefest of pauses between numbers. His live renditions of "Spit It Out" and "You're Quiet" stood out as some of the best performances last night, but then again, it can easily be said that the entire set was impeccable. Probably one of my favorite shows I've seen at the Black Cat thus far. Couldn't find a setlist, so I threw in the only decent picture my camera would take last night of the show. Deal with it.
