Getting Better

The number six entry on Information Leafblower's Top 40 Bands in America Today, The Hold Steady, has just announced a spring tour to continue promotion of their critically-acclaimed album, Separation Sunday. The group will kickoff the month-long jaunt right here in DC at the Black Cat on Wednesday, February 1st. Swearing at Motorists and Plastic Constellations will support the band with tickets costing an economical $10.

Continuing the just announced theme, Stars, who recently opened for Death Cab for Cutie at the 9:30 Club back in October (and who personally stole the show in TUL's opinion), will be headlining at the Black Cat on Friday, February 24th. By the looks of things, we may be finally seeing some better acts pour into the District after such a long drought these past few months. As it turns out, I'm not alone in this stance. An email from one of TUL's readers (an LA export) offers their opinion on the matter:

So, I was perusing the 930 website the other day and it occurred to me that there is a lot of crap playing there. I mean Bone Thugs N Harmony, Pogue? What the hell? Has the 930 club descended from greatness or are there not that many new, good acts out there? In any event, I wonder if 2005 was the best year for them. As far as I'm concerned it was, but then I have no basis of comparison. But we may have witnessed the best, live year in quite some time.

Now all we need is Wolf Parade to finally have a show here already.
