Home Is Where the Gambling Is

The Upstate Life has been seriously debating whether to go home next weekend. I haven't ventured up north since Thanksgiving, so eight months is a pretty long time. As luck would have it, that very same weekend the one and only Hold Steady will be performing at Valentine's in Albany that Saturday night. If you're not aware, an artist/band of the indie genre performs in the Capital Region at the rate of approximately one show a year. It's a very rare thing, and for TUL's peers in the Albany area, they couldn't be more elated to see the acclaimed Brooklyn group at a venue that regularly hosts punk metal groups and the occasional Goth night. In addition to that, this will also be the first weekend that the Saratoga Race Course will be open. Just think Pimlico, but the complete opposite. There are actually fountains and gardens in the infield rather than, say, a Budweiser truck.
