Looks Like The Doritos Will Have to Wait Another Night
Because I was able to score a ticket for last night's Wilco show, at the very last minute, for face value no less. We have to give a shout-out to one of the board members over at the Via Chicago forum for hooking a brother up in his time of need. Of course, I can now give an obligatory FU to all of the scalpers out there who tried to pawn fans like yours truly because, truth be told, we stuck to our guns and came out on top. The show was, as expected, amazing. The opening band Melomane was eons better than Wilco's opener last year at the 9:30 Club, but then again, I think the whirring sound of my own refrigerator could've surpassed The Detholz's act.
Wilco delivered an incredibly solid performance clocking in at a little over two hours which included two encores. It was nice to see that Jeff cleaned up compared to the last time we saw him, but Glenn Kotche has to be by far one of the sweatiest drummers we've ever seen. Dude looked like he jumped into the pool with all his clothes on by the end of the show. Last night's rendition of "Misunderstood" contained a reported 78 "Nothings", a number that has to be at least 20 more than their last 9:30 show. All and all, Wilco failed to disappoint, but how could they not have performed the title track of their latest release (and the tour of which it was named)? Other than that, despite the outcome of the Mets game (which continuously distracted me throughout the night since I kept checking the score on my phone), this was another memorable Wilco show.
