Go Canes?

I wouldn't normally root for a program that I have little if no respect for, but The Upstate Life will be cheering on Miami this Thursday night in hopes that the Canes can eliminate Boston College from the ACC Atlantic Division race. Granted that Miami (and its fanbase) have pretty much mailed it in after their maligned loss to UVA last Saturday, this will not only be the Canes last home game of the season, but it will also be the team's Senior Night. Thursday evening's nationally televised match-up will also be the first time Miami competes in the OB since the tragic passing of senior Bryan Pata, making the emotional factor somewhat substantial going against the Eagles. Couple that with the fact that one more win would make Miami bowl-eligible, the Canes would definitely have something to play for. BC is also somewhat shaky on the road compared to playing in the friendly confines of Alumni Field, and even though the Eagles are heavily favored, Miami still has a shot of an upset. In case you're not keeping track, after Maryland succumbed to BC last weekend, the only way the Terps can reach the ACC Championship is if BC loses to Miami AND if Maryland beats Wake. If BC is victorious, the Terps would be eliminated from contention and would be solely playing against Wake for better bowl positioning. Then again, the fact that we're discussing the possibility of which bowl the Terps will attend is exciting in itself. At the beginning of the season I just wanted Maryland to go over .500, but despite last weekend's loss, this team has been a very enthralling one to watch.
