TUL's Take: Broken Social Scene @ 9:30 Club
I don't know what to make of last night's show. When they were on, they were on, but in between those moments of greatness, they were filled with extended jamming sessions that really didn't go anywhere which I found not only a little bothersome, but somewhat annoying (I have low feedback tolerance if it isn't going anywhere). I had high expectations for this concert after they blew me away when the band opened for Belle and Sebastian back in the summer, but their two and a half hour show last night was all over the place. I feel they're a much better band when confined to a shorter set (see Lollapalooza '06), but the periods of extended jamming/feedback that transpired yesterday wasn't quite was I expecting. Anyway, "KC Accidental" and "Handjobs For The Holidays" were phenomenal live, and despite the absences of Amy Millan, Feist, Emily Haines, etc, Lisa Lobsinger did an acceptable job as the group's female vocalist. Overall, it was a great show which was slightly hindered at times by the group's sporadic jamming.
