TUL's Take: Tapes 'N Tapes @ Black Cat

We got to the Black Cat at the tail end of Annuals' set which we thought weren't too shabby despite only catching 2.5 of their songs. Tapes 'N Tapes made their way onstage at a little after 11 decked out in Halloween garb in respect to yesterday's date of October 31. Josh Grier greeted the near-capacity crowd with his best Tyrone Biggums impersonation (he had the wardrobe down to a T) and kicked the night off with "Just Drums". The band sounded incredibly solid throughout the course of the evening and appeared to be enjoying every minute of it. TnT performed the majority of their material from "The Loon" LP but also threw in some of their older songs from the self-titled EP and a couple of new tunes as well. And while they didn't play "Crazy Eights", one of TUL's favorite tracks, the band's somewhat drunken, unrehearsed encore of "Sweet N Low" was a nice (and hilarious) surprise. Overall, they put on a great show and are one of those bands that sound even better live compared to their recorded counterparts. Setlist via 9:30 forum:
