Down, But Not Out

I'm not panicking yet, but I'm so on the verge. Wednesday's Maryland game against Miami was one of the worst nights in Terrapin Basketball I have ever witnessed, at least in person. It was purely abysmal. This ranks right up there with the 2001 loss to Florida State (FSU hurt a little more since we were a projected Final Four team that year). Poor officiating aside, how does a team shoot 22%? 22%!?!? We were getting good looks, but not a single player could finish. The ball simply refused to go into the basket. I'm honestly clueless as to why Gary won't let Hayes start and run the offense. Vasquez is much better coming off the bench and is way too erratic at this point in his young career in regards to his shot selection. I mean, I can't even enjoy Duke's loss to Georgia Tech yesterday when we were a frickin' 15-point favorite to win last night. This game will come back to haunt us IF we're on the bubble again, which, unfortunately, is looking more likely. Clemson is a must-win, but the damage has been done. Then again, just like after the FSU loss, it lit a collective fire under the team's ass. Let's hope this will be the case come Saturday.
