It's Never Too Early for a Virgin Festival Update

Even though we're months away from the summer music festival season, The Upstate Life has just been tipped some relevant information in regards to this year's Virgin Festival. Washington Post music critic J. Freedom du Lac broke the news in his Freedom Rock online chat this afternoon that the 2007 version of V Fest will not only be two days this year, but will also feature The Police as one of the two major headliners. The other, you ask? A rumored appearance by The Smashing Pumpkins:

J. Freedom du Lac: OK, OK -- I finally have something for you here. This has been long rumored and appears to be Happening For Real Now. Haven't gotten hard confirmation, but I'm reading the tea leaves, and they're telling me this is pretty much a done deal.

The Police will headline this year's Virgin Festival on Saturday, Aug. 4 at Pimlico in Baltimore. You read it here first.

I'm also hearing that the Virgin Festival will be a two-day affair this time around.

Second day will be Sunday, Aug. 5, and the rumored headliner that day is another reunion band: The Smashing Pumpkins.

No, I don't have any idea when tickets are likely to go on sale, or who else is playing, or any of that.

I just know that if you're hoping to see the Police around here, that you shouldn't book a vacation the first weekend in August.

Well shit. We just realized that another huge music fest otherwise known as Lollapalooza will be taking place that very same weekend. I mean it beats having it on Yom Kippur and all a la last year, but does it have to conflict with the Chicago four day weekend that we were (at least until now) originally planning? Guess it depends on which fest Daft Punk will perform at before we reach ultimately a decision, but V Fest is looking quite tempting already.
