Selection Sunday Thoughts
A #4 seed was honestly the best-case scenario for the Terps, so despite their stunning loss to Miami in the opening round of the ACC Tourney, the committee thought highly of the Terrapins overall resume and actually gave Maryland a break. I have to admit, I'm a bit leery about the first-round matchup against Davidson. 4/13 games are a little more reassuring than 5/12 ones, but the Wildcats are certainly no pushover. They love to shoot the 3, so we're going to have to press hard in order to force them to go inside against our big men. This game is going to be a lot closer than I want it to be, kind of like the classic 2003 first-round matchup against UNC Wilmington. We all know how that one turned out.
Speaking of local teams, I have Georgetown in my Final Four. They are arguably playing their best basketball and have by far the easiest path to the East Regional. Maryland, on the other hand, is hands down in the hardest of all four regions. Still, after a two year absence, just being back in the Big Dance is a joy and a relief.
Oh, and The Upstate Life would like congratulate the Great Danes of Albany for not only winning for the very first time at Vermont and claiming the America East Championship in a thriller of a game, but also earning a very respectable #13 seed against #4 UVA. Hey DCeiver, I smell an upset. Then again, that's me being a homer, but it would be so lollerskates if Albany gets the win.
