We Got Jokes
Alright, here we go. Now I admit Dave Chappelle is funny. Repeating those oh-so-hilarious catchphrases four months after the episode first aired is not. The discussion has been ongoing, but as Zeppelin eloquently put it, the song remains the same. Let's flashback to Saturday night when I was leaving the bar around 2am: My and buddies and I are walking back to the car when some dudes behind us start doing those Lil' Jon impersonations Chappelle introduced us back to in the wintertime. You know the ones I'm talking about, the "What!" and "OK!" shouts the Southern rapper excessively uses in his lyrics. Oh, but it gets incredibly worse. More drunken guys across the street start calling back to the original bunch the same frickin lines, creating a stereo effect of unfunny shit. I could go on about the issue, but Maddox put it best in his diatribe on Chappelle imitators simply titled, "You're not Dave Chappelle, and you're not funny." The same thing happened a few months back when I went to see Kill Bill Volume 2 in Albany. Pretty much the exact banter was going on across the theater before the movie started. This prompted my buddy Greg to audibly cough "Asshole", generating more laughter from the audience than any of the passé jokes those idiots were doing. Anyways, the point of the matter is that yelling played-out Chappelle lines is the equivalent of wearing a trucker hat. No one really wants a brick in the face.
